How to Show Gratitude to Your Team: Annual Reviews and Raises

We’re continuing our series on gratitude, and for today’s video, we’re talking about why you should use annual reviews and raises to show your insurance team gratitude.

“I do think that to show that gratitude and to show the employees or the employer that you care, I think that’s super important that you’re transparent, open, and honest about all of it so that everybody’s on the same page and no feelings get hurt.”

Some of you might cringe at the topic, because performance reviews and raises can be a sticky subject for some. And while sometimes reviews can be awkward, they really don’t have to be.

Instead, you can tackle this process head on, and make raises part of the process in a way that expresses gratitude for the hard work of your employees. Here’s what you should keep in mind if you’re wondering how to use annual reviews and raises to show your insurance team gratitude.

  • Keep them constant: When reviews are infrequent, such as every year or more, they can become tense and awkward. To smooth them over, make them more consistent and frequent. This could be once a quarter, where you ask employees to come in to just sit down and talk.
  • Don’t make them ask: Your employees shouldn’t have to ask for a review or meeting, or should have to ask for those raises. If you have reviews on a consistent calendar, you’ll already solve this issue.
  • You should be transparent: In order for raises to be effective, you need to be transparent with everyone involved. That might mean having some tough conversations and talking about improvement that should happen. But it shows that at the end of the day, your compliments are genuine.

Raises are a great way of showing your employees that they’re doing a great job, that you care, and that their work is seen. Whether you approach this in the form of a holiday bonus or performance review, you can make your team feel seen and appreciated.
