4 Common Insurance Job Ad Mistakes to AVOID

We see a lot of agencies who are hiring (something we think you should ALWAYS be doing, but we digress). There are four common insurance job ad mistakes that we see time and time again.

“Ever heard the line about how a friend to all is a friend to none? You can’t attract everyone because you’ll end up appealing to no one.”

  1. You make the post too short or too long.

This is something you need to balance. Be descriptive and give people a good idea of what kind of environment they will be working in. Also, make it clear what you will expect of them, but don’t make a novel out of it. You have better things to do and bigger fish to fry.

  1. The job description isn’t clear.

We could go on a whole rant for this point. People are reading your post and immediately thinking “okay, can I do this job?” It’s a critical question. You have a job that needs doing so let people know what the heck that job is.

  1. The salary is missing.

We get it. You don’t want the whole conversation to be about money, but, we promise, it’s not. In all reality, we all work to make money. Yes, we want to enjoy it, but it is a means to an end. You have to show people the kind of means they will have with your business. If they have a certain lifestyle or set of responsibilities that they need to maintain, this information is imperative.

  1. It’s Blah.

We aren’t saying that you need to make this posting something that will win a Pulitzer, but it does need to be attractive. You have a specific person in mind. Write to that person. Ever heard the line about how a friend to all is a friend to none? You can’t attract everyone because you’ll end up appealing to no one. Try to figure out the exact person you want in your office and write your posting for them.

You can just about guarantee that if you fix your current postings so that they don’t fall victim to the common insurance job ad mistakes, you’ll see an immediate difference in your potential hires.
