Agency Assessment Stat: Stress

There is undoubtedly a perception of extreme stress in agencies.  Team members walking around exclaiming how busy they are, how overwhelmed they feel, etc. For many agency owners, they feel they can’t “add another thing on” without breaking the team’s back. Statistically it’s not accurate. While there is a big perception of stress in the office, the numbers show something far different.  Less than 17% of agency staff feel stressed all the time. Over 74% feel stressed a few times per month. Being stressed a few times per month is perfectly reasonable for any job.

What people are really saying is that their energy is low. Dealing with underwriters and price sensitive customers is draining. That’s why as agency owners you need to work hard to switch the conversation from price to value. That’s really what people want, a good value for their money. This only happens when the owners believe first and second they continuously talk to their team about the differences.

Also, while change can be stressful, it’s part of life. What’s more stressful is changing when you HAVE to versus when you want to and it’s planned. Remind the team that change is good and healthy while stressful is necessary.
