Someday, you want to be able to hand off the metaphorical torch, and to do that, you need to be developing and engaging future leaders, and to do that, you need to build the right insurance agency team.

It’s a big freaking deal. Your agency is your team. As Kelly always says, they are both your greatest asset and your greatest expense, so it’s vital that you have the right one.
How do you know that you have this? And if you don’t have that special sauce in your agency just yet, how do you get it?
It starts with this saying Heath told us about, which goes something like having the right people in the right seat. If you have someone meant to do A sitting in the B chair, you need to reevaluate some things. Your team will show you what they are best at, what they love, and are called to do. You simply have to watch.
You also need to understand the cost of a bad hire. No matter how recently (or how many years ago) you brought this person on, it’s going to leave a big, nasty bill when all is said and done. That person will not be someone who leads your agency to the promised land, no way.
They will probably do the opposite.
Here at APP, we believe there are only two gears you can be in, repairing or preparing. You are either A) repairing past damage and cutting your losses or B) preparing for the next big thing for your agency. If you are honest with yourself, you know you can’t do both.
