This past month I have encountered more badittudes in insurance than I care to discuss. Not just bad day attitudes but blatant disrespectful, defensive and reprehensible behavior. The kind where if these people worked for a carrier, they would have been escorted out by security. The challenge is if you are not careful you can start running your agency around these people rather than with them. As an employer you should never walk on egg shells around a difficult employee.
The challenge in confronting them is always complicated. Will their behavior get worse? Will their reaction to the confrontation cause a meltdown? Will they leave you high and dry? The reality is all three things will most likely happen but by you sticking your head in the sand the problem continues. You have to address it and realize that you are in control, not them. Every agency should have a basic level of professionalism and if it is not being adhered to then it is unacceptable. Don’t allow it to happen and definitely don’t let it continue.
It may seem scary but moving on from a bad attitude is critical to your sanity and your agency’s success.
