Have A Dinner Meeting
Your hesitation with this is noticeable from here, but hear us out. When you are bringing on a new producer or a new manager, there are a lot of unknowns. A dinner meeting helps you get a more complete picture of who they are and how they will fit into your agency.
“See what you can see regarding what kind of person they are, how they treat their spouse, and how they might treat your team.”
What does that mean? Well, a producer’s main purpose is to build relationships and represent your agency out in the world. And then someone in a leadership position is being trusted with the progress and well-being of your team. You need to find out if you can trust this person with that responsibility.
Bring your spouse and have them bring theirs. You can also invite other producers or management from your agency to make it more of a group thing.
Get to know them on a more personal level. See what you can see regarding what kind of person they are, how they treat their spouse, and how they might treat your team. Try to detect any issues that might impact your agency that lives in their personal lives. Trust your instincts on this.
We never want to admit it, but our personal life always impacts our professional life, even in insurance.
Take a look at the whole event either that night or the next day. Ask your spouse what they thought. What did your team think?
Use the dinner meeting as a chance to see if this person really does align with the vision you have for your agency.
