What’s Bothering Insurance Agency Owners?

If you want to make the most of your agency and have a successful business, you’re in the right place. All this week, we’re diving into our new Q4 class of how to plan and execute an agency success road map. Yesterday, we spoke about how agency owners can get rid of jobs that they hate. Today, we’re talking all about what’s bothering insurance agency owners, and how to tackle that list.

“If you have things that bother you that you talk to your friends, your spouse about, or maybe even to a trusted person at the agency, talking about them isn’t a plan. Talking about them is fantastic, but it’s gonna solve the problem.”

Here’s the thing: if you have things that bother you in your agency, and you talk to your friends about them, your spouse, or maybe even a trusted person in your agency, talking about those things isn’t actually a plan. It can be helpful to talk about them, but ultimately, you need to have a plan of attack to handle them.

Getting to the bottom of what’s bothering insurance agency owners is pretty simple, and it involves one main thing: documenting the issues. Once you document exactly what’s going on, youHere are the steps that we recommend to tackling those issues that are grinding your gears as an agency owner:

  • Document

As we just mentioned, the first step to solving what’s bothering insurance agency owners is to document the issues. Make a list of what’s bothering you, and carry that list around with you all of the time. Things might bother you routinely, or they might happen out of the blue, but make sure you add them to the list when they occur. Either way, you need to keep track of these things, because it’s your business, and the only one who can fix it is you.

  • Build a plan

After you document the issues, you’re able to categorize and prioritize, to start tackling those bothersome items. Sometimes fixing these issues is really painful. It might involve letting go of someone, moving things around, or saying no to certain clients. But remember, at the end of the day, if it bothers you, it’s something that’s worth addressing.

It’s likely that you’re in the end-of-year planning mode, which means it’s a powerful time for you to plan what’s coming up next. Take this time to write down what bothers you, and don’t forget, if you need a hand, we have our new Q4 class, designed exactly for this purpose.
