Insurance Time Tracking
If you’re an agency owner experiencing burnout, it’s important to understand where your hours and minutes in the day go, in order to optimize your schedule. And if you’re anything like us, you probably think that you don’t have a spare minute to do insurance time tracking. That’s exactly what we thought at first, and we resisted insurance time tracking for a long time before finally giving in.
“Time tracking is a great way just to open your eyes. It’s kind of like, to me it was like stepping on the scale when you know you’re trying to lose weight. I have to embrace where I am to get to a better place.”
Why did we become converts, and advocates for insurance time tracking? When doing research on time management from experts, everyone kept recommending the same thing: time tracking. When we finally gave it a try, what we discovered was eye opening. Here are some ways you can embrace time tracking, in order to manage your insurance burnout:
Find a method that works
There are many different systems of time tracking, and you can find one that works for you. We use a time tracker where we document our activities, and categorize the work type. There’s even categories for when we’re wasting time on social media. What we discovered when we started time tracking was that we were getting too caught up in the “do” phase, and because of that, our team didn’t have the tools they needed to help take stuff off our plate.
Understand your schedule
When you time track, you can understand exactly where your valuable time is going. This means that you’ll understand where you need to optimize or automate tasks, which tasks should be transferred to others, and which things you treasure, and want to keep on your plate. Understanding your schedule helps you then make educated decisions, to reduce your burnout and best support your staff.
Make decisions based off of time tracking
Time tracking is a great way to open your eyes to what you’re really doing with your day. You’ll likely find that you’re doing things below your pay grade, for example, or you might realize that you need to hire additional employees. You can use time tracking to take a data-based approach to your decisions as a leader.
While it might seem challenging to spend time tracking your time, it’s really a small investment to make, in order to reap some pretty massive benefits. By understanding the true breakdown of how you spend your time, you’ll be able to make better decisions, delegate, and maximize your own efficiency, in order to reduce your burnout.
