Insurance Employee Enthusiasm
All this week we’re covering when to fire an employee when you’re running an agency, and today we’re discussing how attitude comes into play. We say that insurance employee enthusiasm needs to be a thing, because if people don’t want to be at your agency, they’re wasting everyone’s time.
“You might be thinking: is this really a requirement for their job? Would I fire someone for not being enthusiastic? I would say absolutely.”
You might be wondering if enthusiasm is really part of the job description, and if someone should be fired for not having it. We say absolutely yes, and here’s why.
They won’t ever get excited
We’ve sat in training sessions where everyone is silent in the room, as if getting better at your job isn’t something to be excited about. These are the same employees that can’t wait to get out the second 5:00pm hits. You don’t want these people on your team, because they’re not going to be bringing anything good to the table. If they’re only in it for a paycheck, instead of having a career, then that’s a big red flag.
They’re disrespecting you and your business
When an employee says they’ll do something, and they turn around and do the opposite because of a lack of enthusiasm, it’s extremely disrespectful to both you and your business. We can’t have low standards for team members, because it only causes headaches and drama.
They wouldn’t get away with this at a carrier
If you’re wondering whether insurance employee enthusiasm should be required, think to yourself: would they get away with this attitude at a carrier? No, definitely not. So they shouldn’t get away with it at your agency.
You might be thinking to yourself that you’re already short-staffed, and it’s tough to find people to hire. But the bottom line is that we have to get creative about the hiring process, and demand that everyone bring insurance employee enthusiasm to the table.
