I love this time of year. Planning incentive programs is super easy. It’s simple. Outline an individual goal for each team member and if they hit it, they get out at noon on Thanksgiving Eve and early around the Christmas and New Year Holidays. You get 3 shots to pull something fantastic off for the end of the year. Let me tell you, it generally works every single time. People who can’t get account rounds find a way!
The key is to say you will stay to answer phones and cover 911’s if the goals are hit. This shows your leadership skills front and center. And let’s face it, there isn’t much going on from 2-5 the day before we carve up the turkeys. You win, the agency wins and the team wins.
Now, don’t take the weenie way out and give it a team goal. That just means that your super stars will pull the bottom feeders along. Make it individual goals. If someone doesn’t hit it, they should have to stay while the rest of the team leaves. Great news, they will find a way to make it work when the Christmas break rolls around. But don’t buckle and be too nice. Don’t let the team go early unless the goal is hit. It is a reward not a given.
